Michelle Bachelet

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, who promised in her campaign that if elected she would push to legalize marriage equality in her country, holds her promise since she announced before the United Nations General Assembly panel on LGBT rights she intends to introduce to Congress an equal marriage bill in the first half of 2017.

What you should know is that the bill is first focused on the opening of marriage to same-sex couples of course, but not only because it would also strengthen LGBTQ rights as anti-discrimination laws, better welfare benefits, access to life insurance and of course as adoption.

So far only civil unions are possible for same-sex couples.
