Activists and members of nonprofit organizations planned to meet in Taipei at the beginning of October to talk on various subjects including LGBT rights.

This forum will be held on October 3 and 4, 2013 at the GIS MOTC (Ministry of Transportation and Communications) Convention Center. According to China Post, it will feature speakers from Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Singapore who will speak about such issues as the rise and power of NGOs, citizens in the Internet age, social enterprises, rural development and gay rights.

"Civil participation is the drive behind social progress," Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai said in a statement, urging people from Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Singapore, who she said come from societies that have undergone different social and environmental developments, to engage in discussions and join forces.
