Since its launch in August 2014 on YouTube, the series "Carmilla" has continued to find success with over 50 million views per episode, which today leads it to become a movie due out in the fall of 2017.

"Carmilla" tells the story of a lesbian vampire from the 19th century but which takes place in a modern-day university.

The series follows Laura, a university student, and Carmilla, a vampire who replaces Laura's  roommate who has mysteriously disappeared. A complicated love story develops between the two women who conduct investigations throughout the episodes.

The first good news about this film is that the original cast of the series will participate in the film, especially

Elise Bauman (Laura) and Natasha Negovanlis (Carmilla). We already know that the story will happen five years after the events of the current third season, and that Carmilla and Laura will solve a new mystery.

Also Smokebomb Entertainment, which produces the web series and the movie, plans to develop it into a live stage show and a TV series thereafter.

"The demand for 'Carmilla' has been off the charts so we wanted to super-serve the fans by exploring the story further through other formats and platforms," said Jay Bennett, senior VP of creative and innovation at Smokebomb. "It’s not often that you have the opportunity to launch a film with the kind of built-in fan base that 'Carmilla' has."
